The Critical Role of Nail Plate Preparation

Preparation is the foundation of every chemical service in the nail industry.

You must remove all surface oils, contaminants, and moisture from the natural nail plate.

Failure to dehydrate the nail plate properly creates a barrier between the keratin and the product.

Mechanical preparation is equally important for adhesion.

Gently etching the surface increases the surface area for the gel base coat to bond.

Use a 180-grit buffer or a fine diamond bit to remove shine without thinning the nail plate.

Differentiation: Cuticle vs. Eponychium

Many technicians confuse the cuticle with the living skin of the eponychium.
