The Foundation: Precision Nail Preparation
The most critical step in any nail service is preparation.
If the nail plate is not perfectly prepped, even the most expensive builder gel will fail.
You must create a surface that allows the product to bond on a molecular level.
Removing Non-Living Tissue
Do not confuse the eponychium (living skin) with the true cuticle.
The cuticle is the thin layer of dead tissue stuck to the nail plate.
If you apply product over this dead tissue, it will lift as the tissue sheds.
Steps for removal:
- Soften the dead tissue using a professional cuticle remover if performing a wet prep.
- For dry prep (recommended for gel), use a pusher to gently lift the proximal fold.
- Use a diamond cuticle bit with your e-file at low RPM to exfoliate the plate.

Surface Dehydration and Etching
